Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

I was asked to repackage the hardcover edition of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas for the book’s 50th anniversary. Utilizing one of Ralph Steadman’s original illustrations, I reworked the cover to give it more of a modern look. I used bright, complementary colors to create a sense of energetic tension in the illustration.

As someone with chicken-scratch handwriting, I jumped on this opportunity to try some hand lettering. Testing out a handful of different writing implements - including a bamboo stick, a calligraphy brush, different pens, I settled on a fountain pen to achieve the blobby ink look. The ink drops on the cover were also produced while I was working on the title.

These two pieces are my take on book store displays for this title.
